Seven people are homeless after a fire destroyed two houses in east Gatineau.

Police say the fire broke out around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at 56 Glaude Street in an older section of the city, just across the river from Ottawa's Rockcliffe neighbourhood.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof of the single-family home and the blaze quickly spread to the house next door causing heavy damage.

Nobody was injured, though, as investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which completely destroyed the home where the fire started.

It is not being deemed suspicious and total damage is estimated at $150,000.
