Firefighter taken to hospital after Viewmount Drive fire

Ottawa fire officials say a kitchen fire on Sunday morning sent one firefighter to hospital with a lacerated hand and one tenant suffered smoke inhalation.

One man suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter was taken to hospital with a laceration to his hand after a kitchen fire on Sunday morning.

Ottawa fire officials say a 911 call came in from a resident of 377 Viewmount Dr. at about 9:55 a.m. reporting a kitchen fire.

When firefighters arrived, they reported smoke shooting from the two-storey home. The fire was extinguished within the hour.

Paramedics treated a male tenant for smoke inhalation at the scene.

A firefighter was also taken to hospital by paramedics for a hand laceration.

Damages are estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire has not been released.
