Ottawa firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 1494 Kingsdale Avenue at 12:24 p.m. Monday after receiving a call from a volunteer firefighter from Greely, Ont., who spotted smoke as he drove by the home.

Firefighters are still working on the fire, which started in the basement and spread to the rest of the house. The damage to the house and its contents is estimated at $300,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
