Elderly woman dies after fire south of Ottawa

A 75-year-old has died from injuries suffered during a house fire in Oxford Mills, south of Ottawa.

Ontario's fire marshal is investigating a house fire south of Ottawa that led to the death of a 75-year-old woman.

North Grenville firefighters, Ontario Provincial Police and Leeds & Grenville paramedics responded to the fire just after 1 p.m. Sunday at 97 Maplewood Ave. in Oxford Mills, Ont., south of Ottawa.

One firefighter rescued 75-year-old Margaret Rupert from the home and CPR was administered. Rupert was taken to the Kemptville District Hospital but she was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy was scheduled in Ottawa Monday.

The cause of the fire and the total damage estimate are still under investigation, police said. Foul play is not suspected.
