Driver charged after seriously injuring cyclist

The driver of a pickup truck that collided with and seriously injured a cyclist early Sunday morning has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act, police say.

The driver of a pickup truck that collided with and seriously injured a cyclist early Sunday morning has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act, police say.

The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Century Road West, north of Manotick.

Paramedics said the 41-year-old man riding his bicycle was wearing a helmet at the time when he was struck by the truck.

The cyclist suffered severe injuries to both arms, paramedics said.

He was taken to The Ottawa Hospital's civic campus trauma unit in serious condition.
