A cyclist was taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a car on O'Connor Street near Somerset Street W.

Ottawa police said they were called to the scene at 3:43 p.m. ET.

The cyclist, a 56-year-old man, was conscious and speaking to emergency responders when they arrived and was transported to hospital with minor injuries to his knee and ankle.

It's not clear in which direction the cyclist was travelling.

It's the second reported collision since the O'Connor bike lane opened last week.

The city has posted electronic billboards reminding motorists on O'Connor to watch for cyclists before turning left across the bike lanes, in addition to other signs.
