Two people died in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Highway 7 Sunday evening, Ontario Provincial Police say.

It happened about two kilometres west of Highway 41 near Kaladar, Ont., southwest of Ottawa, at about 5 p.m.

The tractor-trailer was heading west when, for reasons so far unknown, a Subaru Forester travelling east crossed into the tractor-trailer's path and was struck, OPP said in a media release issued Monday morning.

Ottawa residents Brian Ward, 70, and Mary Ward, 69, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 59-year-old man driving the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.

Highway 7 remained closed at the scene Monday morning to allow heavy equipment to off-load about 40,000 kg of steel from the tractor-trailer. Traffic is being detoured at Highway 41 and Highway 37, OPP said.
