Townhouses evacuated after Christmas Eve garage fire

Residents of an east Ottawa townhouse complex were temporarily forced from their homes after a garage fire broke out on Christmas Eve.

Damage estimated at $150,000

Residents of an east Ottawa townhouse complex were temporarily forced from their homes after a garage fire broke out on Christmas Eve.

Crews were called to 326 Stone Quarry Pte. around 10 p.m. Thursday, where they found a vehicle in the garage on fire, said Ottawa Fire Services.

They were able to extinguish the vehicle fire at 10:36 p.m. and had the entire situation under control seven minutes later, fire officials said.

No one was in the home at the time. Firefighters evacuated the adjoining units as a precaution.

Smoke from the fire damaged the neighbouring home at 328 Stone Quarry Pte., and fire officials said the owners of that unit will be spending Christmas Day with friends.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
