Chickens gathered after Highway 401 crash

Ontario Agriculture Ministry workers helped provincial police round up chickens loose on Highway 401 between the eastern Ontario towns of Cardinal and Iroquois after a tractor-trailer transporting the poultry overturned.

Ontario Agriculture Ministry workers helped provincial police round up chickens loose on Highway 401 between the eastern Ontario towns of Cardinal and Iroquois after a tractor-trailer transporting the poultry overturned Wednesday morning.

The westbound lanes of the highway have reopened after police closed them after the crash, which happened at about 5 a.m. ET Wednesday.

Emergency crews worked at clearing the wreckage, which blocked much of the westbound lanes of the 401, just west of Carman Road near Iroquois.

Police had corralled the chickens on the highway median before they got loose again, forcing closure of the eastbound lanes for part of the morning. The eastbound lanes have since reopened.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries, police said.
