Horse dead, 14-year-old buggy driver injured in crash with SUV

A boy is injured and a horse is dead after their buggy collided with an SUV on Highway 62 just north of Belleville, Ont., on Friday evening.

OPP looking for witnesses of Friday night crash

A boy was injured and a horse died when an SUV collided with a horse-drawn buggy on Highway 62 just north of Belleville, Ont., on Friday evening.

It happened near the highway's intersection with Ridge Road, between the small communities of Moira and Stirling, at about 6:20 p.m.

A large SUV was heading south on the highway while the horse-drawn buggy was heading north, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release issued Monday.

The collision occured in the southbound lane, OPP said.

The 14-year-old boy driving the buggy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The horse died at the scene and the front end of the SUV was significantly damaged, OPP said.

The police investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Central Hastings OPP at 1-613-473-4234.
