Body found in burned vehicle near Carp

A body has been found inside a vehicle that caught fire near the rural west Ottawa community of Carp, police say.

A body has been found inside a vehicle that caught fire near the rural west Ottawa community of Carp, police say.

Firefighters were called to extinguish a vehicle on fire on Carp Road, near Thomas A. Dolan parkway, just before 12:50 p.m.

Police confirmed that arson investigators and criminal investigators are now looking into the case. 

The Ontario fire marshal has also been called in and is leading the investigation.

William Hay, who works in the fire marshal's office, said the vehicle has been taken with the remains inside to Toronto for examination.

He said unfortunately the remains, which were found in the driver's seat, may be difficult to identify and could involve using dental records and DNA.

He said Ottawa police will come to Toronto for the examination.
