Construction halted near Sparks Street after bones discovered
23 skeletons dug up since 2013 during construction in area
Construction at a site on Sparks Street, between Metcalfe and Elgin streets, was halted over the noon hour on Thursday when workers discovered bones.
Police stopped work on the site behind 62 Sparks St. after workers came across the remains.
Const. Chuck Benoit said it's not yet known if the remains are human or animal.
The bones will be tested by a local laboratory. Construction at that site is on hold until the results come back.
On nearby Queen Street, 23 skeletons have been dug up since 2013 as workers repaired a water main.
Archeologists believe that area is an old Methodist cemetery, part of a burial ground created in the early 19th Century.
