As baby boomers try to stay active, more and more are pursuing surgery as a means of maintaining mobility.

Last year there were 59,946 knee replacements and 49,503 hip replacements requiring hospitalization in Canada, and many more surgeries for less extensive surgeries.

Jeff Crawford went in for day surgery to reshape his hip earlier this month, and he let CBC Ottawa come along to chronicle the experience.

Crawford had injured his hip and pelvis after a snowmobiling accident on Calabogie Lake, and continued to have problems with his hip. Watch the video above to see how the process unfolded.
