Police used a stun gun on a woman who was wielding steak knives and demanding free food at a pizza shop last night.

Halifax Regional Police said a woman with two knives tried to stop traffic at the intersection of Jackson and Victoria roads in Dartmouth.

Ten minutes later, police were called to a pizza store on nearby Albro Lake Road where an armed woman demanded food.

Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs said the woman had a knife in each hand and approached the officers. He said they shocked her with a stun gun when she ignored their commands.

Police said no one was hurt, but the woman was taken to Dartmouth General Hospital for a medical assessment.

A 43-year-old woman faces weapons and theft charges.
