A woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a car in Dartmouth, N.S., Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was crossing Cranberry Crescent when she apparently walked into the path of the car, police say. She was not in a crosswalk.

Emergency crews worked on her for 20 minutes before she was taken to hospital.

Neighbours say speed is sometimes an issue in the area, but it's not clear if that was a factor. Police have not said anything about any charges for the driver or the pedestrian.

Part of Cranberry Crescent was closed as police investigate.
