Woman killed in Musquodoboit Valley house fire

A woman believed to be in her mid-50s died in a house fire in the community of Brookvale in the Musquodoboit Valley Saturday afternoon, the RCMP confirm.

A woman believed to be in her mid-50s died in a house fire in the community of Brookvale in the Musquodoboit Valley Saturday afternoon, the RCMP confirm.

Fire crews were called to the modest two-storey home on Higginsville Road at about 2:30 p.m. By the time they arrived, the interior of the home was fully engulfed in flames.

They discovered that a woman was still inside the home.

The victim's name has not been released. It's believed she lived by herself in the home which is located on a rural road with several farms nearby.

The cause of death and cause of  the fire are under investigation, RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Leger said.

The RCMP, Department of Transportation, EHS and firefighters from Dutch Settlement, Cooks Brook, Stewiacke and Middle Musquodoboit all responded to the fire.
