Woman dies in Upper Clements accident

A 72-year-old woman from Upper Clements, N.S., is dead after a motor vehicle accident late Wednesday night.

A 72-year-old woman from Upper Clements, N.S., is dead after a motor vehicle accident late Wednesday night.

The woman, who was walking her dog along Highway 1, was struck by an eastbound vehicle in Upper Clements at approximately 10 p.m., said RCMP Cpl. Dale Guy.

The 30-year-old male driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Guy said the driver immediately stopped and offered aid to the woman. Emergency crews were called to the scene of the accident, where the woman was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.

RCMP are not releasing the woman's name pending notification of her family.

Guy said the woman was well known within her community. He called the accident "most unfortunate and tragic." He said he did not believe charges would be laid.
