A woman has died after the car she was driving veered off the roadway over a steep embankment and struck a concrete culvert in Pictou county, say police.

A woman has died after the car she was driving veered off the roadway over a steep embankment and struck a concrete culvert in Pictou county, police say.

RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 4 near Central West River at 1 p.m., Sgt. Brigdit Leger said in a release.

Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to remove the the woman from a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The woman was taken to the Aberdeen Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Police are not releasing the woman's name until her family has been notified.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
