18-year-old driver charged after woman badly injured in crosswalk

Halifax police say the woman was in a marked crosswalk in Spryfield Thursday morning when she was hit by a car. Her injuries are life-threatening.

Victim was in a marked crosswalk in the 560 block of Herring Cove Road, Halifax police say

An 18-year-old Halifax man has been charged after a woman was hit and badly injured by a car at a Spryfield crosswalk Thursday morning, according to Halifax Regional Police.

The 48-year-old woman remains in hospital and might not survive, police said. 

The woman was in a marked crosswalk in the 560 block of Herring Cove Road when she was struck by a car travelling inbound, police said. 

The driver was arrested at the scene, questioned, and is now facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The section of Herring Cove Road where the woman was struck was shut down while police investigated the collision. It has since reopened.
