Water main breaks on Highway 118 ramp
A contractor sliced into a water main on a Highway 118 ramp near Dartmouth Crossing, backing up traffic for several kilometres Wednesday.
The rupture happened just before noon and sent water gushing 10 metres into the air.
The pressure was so intense it was blowing chunks of rock.
Four lanes were closed on Highway 118 while the debris was cleared around 12:20 p.m.
Traffic was at a standstill from the 118 ramp to Highway 111, all the way back to the Wright Avenue exit for a short period of time.
There were lane reductions while the Halifax Regional Water Commission repaired the break.
The water main supplies the Burnside Industrial Park and north-end Dartmouth.
There were no reports of anyone without water, but there may have been a drop in pressure for those living in the Shubie Park area.
