Voting day in Cape Breton North

Voters in the electoral district of Cape Breton North head to the polls Tuesday for a byelection.

Voters in the electoral district of Cape Breton North head to the polls Tuesday for a byelection.

The seat became vacant when Cecil Clarke resigned to run in the federal election in early May. He didn't win.

About 14,000 people are eligible to vote. Nearly 2,000 — or about 14 per cent — cast ballots in the advance polls.

Based on that turnout, returning officer Alden MacLeod expects a lot of interest in Tuesday's race.

Four men are vying for the seat in the Nova Scotia legislature:

  • Jonathan Dean - Atlantica Party
  • Russell MacDonald - New Democratic Party
  • Brian McGean - Liberal Party
  • Eddie Orrell - Progressive Conservative Party

The polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Results will be available on the Elections Nova Scotia website.
