Tentative agreement reached at Northwood
A tentative contract agreement has been reached between Northwood Care workers, who were in a strike position, and the nursing home's management.
Northwood care is Nova Scotia's largest nursing home.
The agreement was reached Wednesday afternoon during talks between management and the Canadian Autoworkers Union.
"I can't tell you really anything around the details of the agreement. Both sides have agreed that we will allow members to see it first and then vote on the new contract," said John Verlinden, who represents Northwood.
About 550 workers were poised to strike. They are licensed practical nurses, care workers, dietary, environmental and maintenance staff, as well as beauty salon employees. They were seeking better benefits and wage parity with counterparts in hospitals.
Verlinden expects that the vote will be finalized around the middle of next week.
