Police in Cape Breton say a car was racing down Highway 4 at nearly 70 km/h above the speed limit on Sunday afternoon.

RCMP said the Chevy Cavalier was near the intersection of Meadows Road when it passed into oncoming traffic.

The speed limit was 80 km/h, but RCMP said the car was travelling at 149 km/h, "almost causing a major crash."

No one was hurt.

A 17-year-old man faces a charge of stunting. If convicted, he could be fined $2,400 for a first offence.

Travelling more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit is considered stunting, a charge which falls under the Motor Vehicle Act.
