A 16-year-old girl is in critical condition after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving late Saturday night in Pictou County.

The vehicle — carrying four teenage girls — was travelling on Highway 347 when it slammed into an unoccupied parked car.

The Thorburn Fire Department had to use hydraulic cutters to free the driver, who was originally taken to the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

The three other passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say all the occupants were under 18-years-old and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
