Sydney River students fight for Veterans Affairs office
Grade 5 students have started a letter writing campaign to keep the Veterans Affairs office open
Grade 5 students at Sydney River Elementary in Cape Breton have started a letter writing campaign calling on the federal government to keep the Veterans Affairs office in Sydney open.
In October of 2011 the first news came out that the Department of Veterans Affairs was planning big budget cuts over the next few years.
Spending was expected to decrease, said government documents, due to a dwindling number of veterans.
Nine Veterans’ Affairs offices across the country are closing, including one in Sydney.
The CBC’s Gary Mansfield spoke to some of the students involved in the campaign to keep the Sydney office open.
