Suspicious death investigated in Dartmouth
Halifax Regional Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman in north-end Dartmouth on Friday night.
Const. Brian Palmeter said at 8:21 p.m., police responded to an emergency call about an injured person at an apartment building at 44 Primrose St. Officers found the woman suffering from an undetermined injury.
She was transported to the emergency department of the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre by ambulance, where she died a short time later.
"The medical examiner has been called and will be performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death," said Palmeter.
"Investigators are on scene in Dartmouth on Primrose Street looking to speak to witnesses, conducting a canvass of the area."
Witnesses told CBC News that when police officers came to the scene, several officers rushed into the apartment building through both the front and back doors.
The superintendent of the apartment building, who declined an interview with CBC News, said she believed the woman had been stabbed.
The investigation comes after a recent string of violent incidents in the Halifax area. There have been 16 shootings in the Halifax Regional Municipality since March, and earlier this month there were five stabbings in a 24-hour period.
