Severe beating puts N.S. man in hospital

Police investigate an assault in Lower Sackville, N.S., that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

A man in his early 20s suffered life-threatening injuries in a beating at a house in Lower Sackville, N.S., police said Sunday.

The man's skull was fractured when he was struck with a weapon Friday night, according to Staff Sgt. Gerald Grobmeier.

Grobmeier wouldn't identify the weapon.

The attack happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Cobequid Road. The victim was taken to hospital, but police didn't learn of the incident until Saturday morning.

While RCMP and a forensic team were on the scene, executing a search warrant, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle going past the house, police said.

They stopped the vehicle just before midnight Saturday night and arrested a man in connection with the assault.

The victim was still in hospital Sunday.
