Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada coming to Halifax
Annual hockey tradition will be held Feb. 14, 2015
Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada is coming to Halifax in February to mark its 15th anniversary.
The annual hockey tradition will be held on Feb. 14, 2015 and will be hosted by Ron MacLean.
The 13-hour broadcast will feature broadcasts of five games with all seven Canadian NHL teams seeing action.
"Halifax has a tremendous hockey history and is a vibrant Canadian community," Joel Darling, the executive producer of NHL special events for Rogers, said in a statement Thursday.
"This region has a strong tradition of supporting all facets of hockey, from grassroots, to junior hockey, to the NHL."
The Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada NHL schedule:
- Edmonton at Ottawa, 3 p.m. AT
- Winnipeg at Detroit, 8 p.m. AT
- Toronto at Montreal, 8 p.m. AT
- Dallas at Colorado, 10 p.m. AT
- Vancouver at Calgary, 11 p.m. AT
The announcement comes just two days after Cole Harbour natives Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon won big at the NHL's post-season awards ceremony.
Seven years after Crosby won his first Hart Trophy, the 26-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins captain was recognized as the NHL's best once again.
Crosby collected the Art Ross Trophy as the league scoring champion, the Ted Lindsay Award as the players' choice for the NHL's most outstanding player and the Hart Memorial Trophy for most valuable player.
MacKinnon walked away with the prestigious Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year. At 18 years old, he is the youngest player to claim that honour.

With locally-grown heroes like Nathan MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby, and championship teams like the Halifax Mooseheads, Halifax is a natural home for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada," Mike Savage, the mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality, said in a statement.
"We're extremely proud to host an event which celebrates Canada's game and showcases our contribution to its bright future."
