Remains found in bag on Cape Breton river ID'd
Woman, 21, from Northside, police say
Cape Breton police have identified the woman whose remains were found in a hockey bag floating on the Mira River on Friday.
"After extensive work by a member with our forensic identification section and the medical examiner's office, a positive ID has been made on the victim," Staff Sgt. Mike Kennedy said Sunday.
The remains are those of a woman, 21, from Sydney's Northside area, police said, adding the woman's name will not be made public immediately due to a privacy request from the family.
Kennedy would not discuss the cause of death nor how long the woman had been in the river. He did not believe the woman had been listed as missing.
He said police are "working around the clock. We're at a really crucial part of the investigation."
