Police in Nova Scotia are asking for help finding thieves who robbed the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Lakeside.

The RCMP said a commercial alarm alerted police around 1:30 a.m. on Friday.

The rear door had been pried open. Inside, the suspects broke into rooms ransacked the place and made off with a lot of alcohol, police said.

Eric Morrison said the Mounties called him soon after.

He said the thieves took "Six to seven 49-ounce bottles of liquor and 10 to 12 [flats] of 24 beer. There was beer out of the bar and in the hallway. They didn't take it all the way out. They left one flat in the hallway. They didn't finish the job," he said.

The thieves rifled through the cash drawers but staff said they hadn't left any money in the building.

Morrison said the break-in is frustrating, but he's grateful they did not take any legion memorabilia.
