Made inappropriate comments to woman

A Halifax Regional councillor has resigned as chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners.

Reg Rankin stepped down after making some inappropriate remarks to a woman at the Police Ball in early March. He also apologized for his actions.

Dave Moore, president of the Halifax Regional Police Association, confirmed Friday that a letter of complaint was sent to the commission in connection with a code of conduct issue.

Moore said he couldn't say very much because it's a personnel matter. But he said that the situation was resolved to the union's satisfaction.

Coun. Sue Uteck said her colleague did the honourable thing by offering his resignation and an apology.

Rankin said he's not yet ready to talk about the incident.

Regional Council is now considering a code of ethics for individual council members.
