Protesters demand resignation of Halifax mayor
People angry with the cash-for-concerts scandal want Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly to resign.
More than 100 people took part in a rally in Victoria Park on Tuesday night.
The protesters say Kelly must be held accountable for his role in the secret deal with a promoter that ultimately cost the municipality nearly $360,000.
Kevin Kindred, one of the organizers, said he decided a public protest was needed after reading comments from both residents and officials.
"Personally, it was reading a lot of opinion letters … lots of officials calling for the mayor's resignation and yet having no kind of public expression of dissatisfaction, no venue for people who are just kind of talking about this in coffee shops and bars to have their views heard," he said.
Organizers say they will hold more rallies if Kelly doesn't step down.
Kelly has repeatedly apologized and said he would ensure it didn't happen again.
