Preliminary inquiry set for Kirwan's accused killer
Falconer's preliminary hearing will start Feb. 11, 2013
The man accused of murdering New Glasgow teen Amber Kirwan was in court this morning to set a date for his preliminary inquiry.
Christopher Alexander Falconer, 29, is charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder in Kirwan's death.
The preliminary inquiry will start Feb. 11, 2013 and span 15 days over a six-week period.
After the inquiry the judge will decide if there's enough evidence to send Falconer to Supreme Court for trial.
Defence lawyer Mike Taylor said this morning the evidence against his client is circumstantial.
Kirwan, 19, vanished in October after a night out with friends in New Glasgow. On Nov. 5, her remains were found in a wooded area off Heathbell Road, about a 30 minute drive from the pool hall where she was last seen.
At the time Kirwan disappeared, Falconer was out on parole after serving time in prison for the second-degree murder of a cab driver in 1998.
