Porn on Facebook wall shocks Halifax councillor

Halifax Councillor Debbie Hum is apologizing for a pornographic image that was posted on her Facebook wall.

Halifax Councillor Debbie Hum is apologizing for a pornographic image that was posted on her Facebook wall.

Hum said she found out about the image on the weekend through a friend. She immediately took it down and called police.

Hum said she doesn't know how long the image was up on her wall or anything about the person who posted it.

She put up an apology note in its place.

"For some people they may not worry about it too much. But for myself, it made me a little nervous and certainly more cautious," she told CBC News on Monday.

Hum is the representative for Rockingham-Wentworth. She plans to keep her Facebook account and refuses to create a second, private account for friends and family.

"That's very difficult to do as an elected official because people do know you personally, they do want to hear from you as an elected official," she said.

"We are out there in the community, in the public's eye."

Hum said she's more vulnerable to incidents like this as long as she remains a public figure.

Halifax police said if there is no a violation of the Criminal Code, there's not much they can do. However, Const. Brian Palmeter said a violation would depend largely on the content of the image.

Palmeter said an investigation is in its early stages and has been forwarded to their computer crimes department.
