Halifax police are warning the public about an ongoing apartment rental scam in the city.

On Friday, police received a fraud complaint from a man who replied to a Kijiji post advertising an apartment at 1740 Robie St.

The man met with the landlord, inspected the apartment, signed a lease and paid a deposit.

The landlord then cut off all communication with the renter and his phone was disconnected.

Police have received a number of similar complaints about the same rental building dating back to April.

During that time, nearly a dozen people came forward, saying the landlord made off with thousands of dollars.

Police continue to investigate these incidents and are asking anyone with information to contact police.
