Police seek couple in missing cyclist's case

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man and a woman in connection with a missing persons case near Sambro, N.S.

Halifax Regional Police Const. Brian Palmeter said two people — a middle-aged man and woman — were seen at Crystal Crescent Beach on Sunday and officers believe they may have been in the area where a missing cyclist was last seen.

Peter White, 46, went for a bike ride around Crystal Crescent Beach on Sunday and didn't return. After his family reported him missing early on Monday, ground search-and-rescue teams scoured the area looking for him.

His bike was found in the beach parking lot on Monday.

The search was called off on Thursday evening and White's disappearance is now considered a missing persons case.

"This all started with a call we received from the public where somebody believes they saw him at a certain location," said Palmeter.

"We believe this couple might have been in that location and we're looking to basically try and maybe track some movement or narrow down a timeline."

The man and woman were seen at Crystal Crescent Beach between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. They were with two dogs, which may have been springer spaniels.

"Obviously we're interested in speaking to anyone that might have been out in that area because … if people can tell us where they were, it'll help up eliminate areas that may be requiring further searching," said Palmeter.

White is described as a white man, six feet tall, weighing 220 pounds with salt-and-pepper hair. He speaks with a heavy English accent and was last seen wearing a blue K-way jacket.

Police have said they have no reason to suspect foul play.
