Police are searching for a man believed to be in his late teens or early 20s after a shooting at a Halifax bus terminal early New Year's Day.

At about 12:30 a.m., officers were called to the Dartmouth Sportsplex bus terminal where a 16-year-old boy was suffering from gun shot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in serious condition.

Police say the teen was walking with his friends when he was approached by the suspect, which led to a confrontation and shots being fired.

The suspect fled the scene on foot eastbound on Nantucket Avenue.

Police say Metro Transit bus services will not be affected.
