Police arrest suspect after string of armed robberies
4 businesses were robbed Saturday, including 3 at knifepoint
A man has been arrested following two armed robberies at two separate locations on Quinpool Road, and another two robberies on Robie Street — one of which was an armed robbery — this morning.
Police tracked a 27-year-old man to an address near Artz and Brunswick streets where they made the arrest around 3 p.m.
The first robbery happened Saturday morning at 5:15 a.m. when a man robbed the McDonald's on Quinpool Road. The man got away with some cash.
Police sent out a canine unit but that search turned up nothing.
The second robbery happened a few hours later at the Atlantic Superstore on Quinpool Road. At around 10 a.m. a man robbed the store at knifepoint and got away with cash.
Shortly after that a man knocked on the door of a nearby apartment building and asked the woman inside to call him a cab.
"I opened the door and he was just standing there in the corner and asked if I could call him a cab," said Julia, who did not want to give her full name.
She called him a cab.
Police were next to knock on her door.
"[The officer] said there was a suspect involved in a robbery who was traced back to this address," said Julia.
The third robbery happened at 11:51 a.m. when a man robbed the Robie Street Circle K at knifepoint. Three minutes after that robbery a Shell station on Robie Street was also robbed but police say the suspect did not use a weapon.
Police would not confirm whether the incidents are related, but said the description of the suspect in all four cases were very similar.
No one was injured.
