Ottawa diver reported missing off Nova Scotia

A diver from Ottawa has been reported missing off Freeport, near the end of Digby Neck.

A 48-year-old sea urchin diver from Ottawa was reported missing Wednesday near the end of Digby Neck.

A search was conducted Wednesday afternoon and evening by the Canadian Coast Guard and search and rescue crews.

The search will resume Thursday, said RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Leger.

A Cormorant helicopter had been dispatched, but visibility in the area was limited Wednesday, according to RCMP.

He was diving off the fishing boat the Water Queen on Wednesday when he did not resurface as scheduled.

He is a relatively inexperienced diver, according to the rescue co-ordination centre.

He was reported missing at about 1:30 p.m Wednesday.

It's believed he may have drifted toward St. Marys Bay.
