The father of a young girl who died suddenly this winter, after collapsing at a Wolfville hotel pool, is speaking out about the value of organ donation.

Audrey Purcell went into cardiac arrest, at the Old Orchard Inn in January.

The nine year old from Upper Tantallon was there with her family, taking part in a curling tournament.

Her father, Anthony, says she died three days later in hospital.

He says her liver and both kidneys were donated.

Recently, he says, the family received a thank you card from one of the recipients.

"As terrible as this is as a parent, i'm glad she was able to help someone."

Purcell says the family was not aware that Audrey had a heart condition.

He says Audrey was in the shallow end of the pool when she went into cardiac arrest.

She was pulled out immediately. CPR was performed on her and she was transferred to the IWK hospital where she later died.
