Online wanted list valuable tool for Halifax police
An online most wanted list is proving to be valuable tool for police in Halifax police.
The Halifax Regional Police's HEAT (High-Risk Enforment Action Team) Outstanding Warrant Wanted List went online in January.
"Excellent tool — it's benefited us. I know of the last five to six lists we have published, each list has at least six to eight people who have been arrested," said Det.-Sgt. Don Brown.
The latest list has resulted in five arrests — the most recent offender was picked up Tuesday night.
There are four outstanding warrants currently.
Brown said the heat list targets those people police want the most and the list goes up the tips come in.
"Mostly what happens is somebody who knows somebody will call and give us information," he said. "We have sort of come to the end of the rope and we've said 'Okay, let's put them on the most wanted list.'"
Police say to call them if someone on the wanted list is recognized. Most importantly, they say don't try to talk to the person yourself.
