History has always hung thick in the air of old Lunenburg. Now the town is pumping more ghosts of the past across the airwaves, with internet hotspots that provide a Wi-Fi tour of the town.

"Using the technology that we now have at our disposal … we thought of a unique way to unlock the history of Lunenburg for visitors," said Pierre Gueveremont, one of seven local business owners who funded the project.

"The goal is to make the history of the community accessible to people."

The tour, now in its second week, has received some very positive feedback, Gueveremont says: People who have taken the tour say "the hair on their arms is tingling; tears come to their eyes."

And there is no worry that modern technology will take away from the historic experience, Gueveremont said.

"I see it as a technology being used to share that space," he said.

The free tour is available in English, French and German.
