Thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers lose electricity
Large piece of protective equipment failed at the Trenton substation
Nova Scotia Power has restored electricity to most of its customers as of Thursday morning. Tens of thousands of people were without power on Wednesday.
At the height of the outages, more than 31,000 were affected.
The outage happened after a large piece of protective equipment called a breaker failed at the Trenton substation in Pictou County.
"That caused both generating units at the plant to go offline," said Nova Scotia Power spokesperson Tiffany Chase.
Most of the affected customers are in the Trenton, Pictou County, Dartmouth and Musquodoboit areas.
Chase said crews were immediately dispatched to the scene and staff are working on ways to reroute as many of the affected customer to get electricity back as quickly as possible.
