Neighbours save 3 from burning Cole Harbour home
A group of neighbours are being credited with saving the lives of three people from a burning home on Maplewood Drive in Cole Harbour on Thursday morning.
Janet Shipley said she spotted the fire and asked her daughter to call 911. Shipley and other neighbours ran to the home.
"I banged on the door, rang the doorbell and nobody came," she said. "Then a neighbour up the street came down, and I think he actually kicked in the door. There were two guys and a girl in the house."
The three made it out safely, but nothing could be done to save the home.
Flames shot through the roof as firefighters worked on the scene. The roof collapsed at around 10:30 a.m.
Firefighters said it appears the fire started on the back deck. They said there's nothing suspicious about the fire, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
