Natural gas leak closes streets in Halifax's south end

A natural gas leak closed a few streets in Halifax's south end for a few hours Monday.

A natural gas leak closed parts of several streets in Halifax's south end for a few hours Monday.

The natural gas line had been ruptured on Coburg Road, not far from Oxford Street, near the Dalhousie University campus.

According to one worker, the problem was near 6414 Coburg Rd.

Crews were working on a driveway when they heard a "hissing sound."

A small excavator was soon brought in, according to the CBC's Sabrina Fabian.

Oxford Street at Coburg Road was closed. Oxford was also blocked off at Jennings Street between Jublilee Road and Waegwoltic Avenue.

No homes or businesses in the area had to be evacuated.

The streets reopened around 1:45 p.m.
