The minimum wage in Nova Scotia will increase to $10 an hour for many workers on Oct. 1.

The current rate is $9.65 an hour.

The minimum wage for those with less than three months' experience in their current job will rise to $9.50.

Labour Minister Marilyn More said the increase is consistent with those across the country and brings the rate back in line in terms of buying power with where it was in the mid-1970s.

The next increase will occur in April 2012.
