The search for a missing Nova Scotia man in Nunavut has turned into an effort to recover his body.

RCMP say Joseph Hart was reported missing last Wednesday night when he didn't return from fishing at Baker Lake.

The 51-year-old man is from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and was visiting family in the community.

Police said the man's brother found his ATV on the edge of town in an area known as the Inukshuk, along with his helmet, jacket, socks and shoes, and a satellite phone.

Search and rescue crews have been working since Wednesday evening to find Hart. About 100 volunteers and 37 boats have been involved in the search.

A local pilot also flew volunteers over the area. A helicopter with three spotters was also used.

When Hart had still not been located yesterday, RCMP updated the mission from a search to a body recovery.

Cpl. Reg Campbell said it's believed Hart may have waded out from shore and fell into a deeper part of the lake.
