N.S. man faces more child porn charges

A North Kentville man already accused of possessing child pornography now faces additional charges of making child pornography involving a child from another country.

A North Kentville man already accused of possessing child pornography now faces additional charges of making child pornography involving a child from another country.

Const. Brian Palmeter says Jason Troy Pitts faces two new charges related to producing and accessing child pornography.

On Wednesday, a search of a home on Lamont Road in North Kentville resulted in the arrest of Jason Troy Pitts, 36, and the seizure of what police only describe as "additional items."

Pitts faces two charges from Wednesday's search — production of child pornography and conspiracy to commit a sexual assault.

"Certainly the production of child pornography we're alleging that he had a hand in the production, maybe not necessarily being present for it, but certainly had a hand in the production of the images that we're referring to," Const. Brian Palmeter of Halifax Regional Police said Thursday.

On Jan. 4, investigators executed a warrant at the same North Kentville house. As a result of that investigation, Pitts already faced charges of accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

Child victim

Police believe some of the images found Wednesday were created in another country, with a child that has been identified.

Police are working with the Canadian Centre for Missing and Exploited Children on that aspect of the investigation, according to Palmeter.

"But certainly we aren't releasing any information because we don't want to do anything that might put this child in danger or risk identifying her," Palmeter said.

Pitts is scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court on April 16.
