A motorcyclist is in a Halifax hospital with serious injuries after hitting a car on the Cabot Trail on Sunday, police say.

A motorcyclist is in a Halifax hospital with serious injuries after hitting a car on the Cabot Trail on Sunday, police say.

The man's motorcycle crossed the centre line and struck the car head-on at Wreck Cove, just south of the base of Cape Smokey, at about 3 p.m., the RCMP said.

The motorcyclist was transported to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck by ambulance and then airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

Two people in the car received minor injuries, police said.

The Trans-Canada Highway at Baddeck was shutdown for about 45 minutes to accommodate the air ambulance.
