Missing boater's body found floating in the Bay of Fundy
Bystander saw boat drift into the fog near Parkers Cove
A 55-year-old Nova Scotia man was found dead near his boat after he went missing in the Bay of Fundy on a foggy Saturday night.
RCMP Sgt. Rocky Calhoun said the man left Parkers Cove in a four-metre outboard boat just before 8 p.m.
"We believe he was having some motor problems. He got the motor running on the boat and then he was heading out, it was a calm evening, but the fog was rolling in and he may have had some further difficulty with the motor. The person on shore [said] he drifted away into the fog and he lost sight of him. He never heard the motor start up," he said.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre was called in and a Coast Guard vessel was dispatched from Saint John, N.B. A local coast guard auxiliary and a private fishing vessel also aided in the search.
A few hours later, the man's body was found floating in the water near his overturned boat.
Calhoun said it's not clear how the boat tipped over.
The boater's name hasn’t been released.
Police and the medical examiner are continuing to investigate.
